  • 8 apples, peeled, cored and coarsely chopped
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of cloves
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  1. Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.

  2. Cover and cook until apples are soft, about 20-25 minutes. Puree with an immersion blender or in a blender until smooth.

  3. Serve warm or cold.
Recipe Notes
  • You can use any of your favorite apples,  but mix of varieties will be even more flavorful.
  • I love the depth of flavor that apple cider and brown sugar impart, but regular granulated sugar and water will work as substitutes.
  • For a more rustic or chunky applesauce, leave the skins on.
