The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa) is the perfect blend of bubbles, citrus, beer, and VOOM! Let's take the mimosa to the next level!
The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa) is the perfect blend of bubbles, citrus, beer, and VOOM! Let’s take the mimosa to the next level!
A glass of the The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa) garnished with orange slices, and orange slices, a champagne top and the bottle of cointreau are around.

The man, the myth, the mustache inspired…The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa)! This year I’m taking cocktail inspiration from my favorite film of the year (A Star its Born) and the first time (first time- whaaa??!) nominated Sam Elliot.

He epitomizes old Hollywood, is an undeniable man’s man, and can rock a mustache like nobody’s business. This drink is a spin on the traditional mimosa and turns it into a cocktail that I can envision Sam drinking. It’s got…

…citrus (orange juice and slices)

…beer (wheat, which pairs perfectly with the orange)

…vodka (because we’re going for it)

…orange liqueur (Cointreau, to make it sing)

…and a big old glug of Champagne (for the sparkle)

A glass of the The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa) garnished with orange slices, and orange slices, a champagne top and the bottle of cointreau are around.

It feels celebratory, is bright and fresh, but brings enough glamour to feel perfectly at home next to the caviar and blinis that you’re sure to be serving for the big night. (You are serving caviar for the Oscars right?!)

I had my first “manly mimosa” at a brunch recently and knew that I had to recreate my version at home. I was having a huevos rancheros and while I wanted a mimosa, it just wasn’t the right match. Enter the beer cocktail. Thirst quenching, but not heavy. Fancy, but not frou from. It was the perfect fit.

So if you’re looking for the perfect fit for your Oscars soiree, may I suggest The Mustache. It goes with everything and is a guaranteed winner. And let’s hope (my inspiration) Sam Elliot is too!

Let’s make The Mustache

  1. It really doesn’t get any easier than crafting this cocktail. Simply stir the vodka, Cointreau, and orange juice into the wheat beer.
  2. Top off with the champagne and garnish with an orange slice.

Two glasses of the The Mustache (aka the Manly Mimosa) garnished with orange slices, and orange slices, a champagne top and the bottle of cointreau are around.

Tips for success

  • While bottled orange juice will work, freshly squeezed will really make this cocktail sing.
  • Any good quality wheat beer will work in this recipe, either Witbier and Weissbier, although a Witbier has a more citrus forward flavor.
  • I had a giant bowl of clementines on my counter when whipping this up. The juice of the clementines was sweet and delicious and the size of the clementine slice for garnish was the perfect fit. Take inspiration from your counter…feel free to substitute.
  • These cocktails should be made to order to preserve the fizz and flavor!
